Great sermon today
Rev Dr Kow Shih Ming
Text John 4:1-26
The compassion of Jesus
Be not only hearers
but doers
of the word.
Who do you see?
when you come across foreign workers?
church cleaners?
the woman at the well
sychar
samaria
ostracised
social outcast
smaritan
woman
questionable reput
dubious past
BUT who did Jesus see?
some one with need
needed love
need someone to lead her to life
some one who needs a saviour
Jesus had compassion
heal the sick
give sight to the blind
raise the dead
Lost People need shepherd to
lead them to
still waters
green pastures
restore their soul
lead them to righteousness
Who do you see
when you meet a foreign worker?
foreign domestic worker?
those around you
volunteer ushers
church cleaner?
How does Jesus see them?
How to develop compassion in your eyes?
How to grow heart of compassion?
A) Let God's love fill your heart
B) Let your heart be broken
A) Let God's love fill your heart
Romans 5:5
"God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit,"
You cant do life on your own
You need to surrender your keys to Jesus.
Your past: no matter how bad and ugly
Your future: Wherever he will lead
Your present: Just follow him.
But some hold on to
the hurts of the past
Hurt people hurt people!
They need healing.
Ask Jesus to heal you
Tell someone about your pain.
B) Let your heart be broken
If your heart does NOT break
God's love can only ooze out
if it is broken,
God's love can flow out.
Bob Pierce: World Vision
Let my heart be broken by the things that break God's heart
How do you let your heart be broken?
By coming face to face with the needs of the world
Begin to serve.
Compassion is not just a feeling
Compassion is seeking to change
Are you willing to let your heart be broken?
Connect with a real need
Learn their name
Learn their story
That is someone that Jesus gave his life for
Now is our turn
to be moved in compassion
commit to at least one serving opportunity
Begin to allow your heart to be broken
If you are already serving
Get to know their nams
Get to know their stories
If you have not yet given your life to Jesus, you can do so today
