Sharing at ad hoc Choir Fellowship with Dr Jesu Karupa
Luke 10:25-28
Jesus links eternal life with full relationship with God
Involving
ALL our heart
ALL our soul
ALL our strength and
ALL our mind.
AND
A full relationship with our neighbors
AND a full relationship with self
AND from Genesis 1:28-31 we see that God wishes to have a harnonic relationship with environment
The earth, air, water, flora, fauna.
2 Corinthians 5:10 reminds us that we all will have to take a final examination.
In Matt 25:31-46 Jesus identifies some criteria against which we will be measured.
A simple role play was used.
Person A hot and thirsty
person B notices and brings a cup of water.
Refer Matt 10:42 The level of response Jesus expects of us is not that high: a willingness and a cup of cold water.
The participants were then divided into three groups and asked to brainstorm
What simple acts of kindness could we do that did not use money?
many useful ideas came
We had a better sense of what Jesus wants us to do
When we come across those in need we need to respond with action.
Community Development Acts of Kindness are similar:
No money
simple
Less than one day
Should be planned
Outline the steps needed: list the different steps and arrange chronologically
List resources required
Physical Resources: what materials, toos are required
Human Resources: who is needed; who does what task: whose permission is needed
after all the planning: Do it!
as experience develops can broaden the scope
Those who brnifit should be part of the planning
Scope should not be discriminatory: not limited to Christians
Common examples of community Acts of Kindness
Garbage clean up
Repair poor widows home
repair bridge
Protect water source
Apologies to gracious host for ink splash on wall and floor (again!)
